I was thinking about this the other day on our last day trip to Cedar Point. I was doing an informal survey of park visitors as we walked around, and there was only about 1 out of every 40 people there I would consider overweight.Factors: - it's an amusement park so it's a younger than average demographic, and young people aren't fat yet even if they will be when they are older. - When I did see a fatty, it was usually a old lady. ++++ But then I think about Disneyworld and the fleets of "Fatso Transpos," and yeah, America is fucking fat. 1:40 is at least an outbreak.Almost by definition, the obese are disinclined to physical activities like walking around amusement parks, so you have visibility to consider as well. Posted by thibodeaux on Nov. 08 2015,15:40
Every time we go on vacation, I shake my head and mutter, "why is everybody so fucking fat?" Gatlinburg was one of the worst by far.

When I lived in South Dakota in 1999, I kind of got used to heavy midwesterners. When I interviewed in Memphis later that year, I was struck by how many skinny girls with big boobs they had. Just sharing. Posted by Alhazad on Nov. 08 2015,16:46

Almost like it's proximate to a major center of an industry that makes dubiously talented hot chicks famous. Posted by GORDON on Nov. 08 2015,17:08
I also think they may have been throwing all the hot girls in the building at me while I was interviewing.

Cedar Point is not a fair place to judge the number of obese people because it's a thrill park. It's geared for younger folks and all the rides have very specific requirements. Hell, just me being a bigger guy makes a lot of their rides tight fits for me. Disney though... wow! That's a theme park, and geared towards kids and families, so it's a lazier pace. Thus, you get a lot more heavy set folks. Typically, they don't bug me except for the buses. Two things there: 1. If you're too big to stand during the 10-20 minute ride to the hotel, then you're too big. 2. Fatso Transpos. A phrase my wife and I coined during a Disney trip years ago. Fat folks on rascals/scooters who the buses have to load and unload first. They add 10-15 minutes to every trip. When your obesity causes such an inconvenience to other people, you should think about your choices in life. It really passed me off this last time when one older obese lady was screaming about federal law because the bus was already loaded when she rolled up and they couldn't accommodate her. Fuck her. |
