I got $1,000 out of the bank the other day for the trip.

Which apparently would buy like 1 person dinner at < this place > where my friend wanted to go.

I was going to suggest that he's probably exhausted all the male whore possibilities in central NC and Vegas might be a nice departure for him.

Of all the states in the union, why isn't pot legal here?

QUOTE
Two years after the Nevada Legislature passed a law allowing regulated dispensaries and cultivators to serve the state’s medical marijuana patients, the system is finally rolling out. So far, at least two dispensaries have opened, with dozens to follow across the state. Meanwhile, cultivators and processors are working overtime to meet demand. This modest but important phase is a huge step to providing help to the state’s seriously ill patients, as well as those medical marijuana patients visiting Nevada.

Meanwhile, a campaign to bring legalization for adults 21 and over is underway in the Silver State. Initiative Petition 1, which would tax and regulate marijuana similarly to alcohol, has been certified for the 2016 ballot.

Because possession of weed in Nevada used to be a felony from what I understand.  As little as five years ago.  Even their decriminalized laws are excessive.
QUOTE
Although Nevada is considered a “decriminalization” state, simple possession of marijuana can still be treated harshly. First offense possession of up to an ounce is punishable by a $600 fine instead of jail time, but it remains a misdemeanor. The individual is subject to arrest and drug addiction screening that could lead to mandatory treatment and rehabilitation, and a criminal conviction can lead to a lifetime of discrimination which can limit job opportunities and housing options. A second offense carries a $1,000 fine and drug addiction screening. The penalties for third and fourth offenses continue to worsen. Incredibly, possession of two ounces could land a Nevadan in jail for four years.

$600 is horseshit for a first offense.  The mandatory rehab for bud for the second time is even stupider.  What the fuck are you rehabbing from?  The crippling chemical withdrawal?  Then tossing a $1K fine on top of that?  The jail time for two ounces seems even stupider.

I'm sure the alcohol lobby is strong in their state legislature.

I'm sure the alcohol lobby is strong in their state legislature.

Liquor companies mainly spend their time advertising their products and doing pro bono shit to up PR.  I don't think they worry about bud until it's got a real chance at being legalized.  Those dudes contribute to anti-drug bullshit via fronts like < these >.
QUOTE
PDFA was the subject of criticism when it was revealed by Cynthia Cotts of the Village Voice that their federal tax returns showed that they had received several million dollars worth of funding from major pharmaceutical, tobacco and alcohol corporations including American Brands (Jim Beam whiskey), Philip Morris (Marlboro and Virginia Slims cigarettes, Miller beer), Anheuser Busch (Budweiser, Michelob, Busch beer), R.J. Reynolds (Camel, Salem, Winston cigarettes), as well as pharmaceutical firms Bristol Meyers-Squibb, Merck & Company and Procter & Gamble. In 1997 it discontinued any direct fiscal association with tobacco and alcohol suppliers, although it still receives donations from pharmaceutical companies.

Because those dudes don't make drugs that are abused at a higher rate than street chems nor do they make drugs that kill more people through OD.

I think the answer here is that Nevada is very much a red state which is as backwards moronic as Iowa, Alabama, or Oklahoma in their enforcement of moral self-righteousness and scientific ignorance.
QUOTE
DUI penalties pursuant to H.B. 1441, effective October 1, 2013, a person will be jailed for no less than 30 days or more than 1 year if: A person as any amount of a Schedule I chemical or controlled substance, as defined in Section 2-204 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes, OR ONE OF ITS METABOLITES OR ANALOGS in the person’s blood, saliva, urine or any other bodily fluid at the time of a test of such person's blood, saliva, urine or any other bodily fluid administered within two (2) hours after the arrest of such person

Oklahoma: first offense is 30 to 365 days in jail.  If you bake brownies, however, you're going away for much longer.
QUOTE
New penalties for possession or making of hashish, a grinder, or brownies may include life imprisonment were enacted in 2011.

I may be mistaken, but I think you can rob, rape, or accidentally kill someone with less of a punishment.  The grinder possession is off the charts fucking stupid and any legislator supporting that piece of shit law should be removed from public service for the public good.

Grinder?  Like the sandwich?  A pot sandwich?
Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 06 2015,12:56

The thing one uses to grind coarse, dried bud into a more consistent form.  Purchasable on Amazon.

QUOTE

Because of her role as a middle woman between a cocaine buyer and supplier, Jones was accused of being part of a “drug conspiracy” and should have known that the powder would be converted to crack — triggering a greater penalty.

Her sentence was then made even more severe with a punishment tool introduced at the height of the drug war that allowed judges in certain cases to “enhance” sentences — or make them longer.

Jones was hit with a barrage of “enhancements.”

Her license for a concealed weapon amounted to carrying a gun “in furtherance of a drug conspiracy.”

Enhancement.

When she was convicted on one count of seven, prosecutors said her testimony in her defense had been false and therefore an “obstruction of justice.”

Enhancement.

Although she was neither the supplier nor the buyer, prosecutors described her as a leader in a drug ring.

Enhancement.

That has resulted in < this >.
QUOTE
The Justice Department is set to release about 6,000 inmates early from prison — the largest ever one-time release of federal prisoners — in an effort to reduce overcrowding and provide relief to drug offenders who received harsh sentences over the past three decades.
...
Federal prison costs represent about one-third of the Justice Department’s $27 billion budget. The U.S. population has grown by about a third since 1980, but the federal prison population has increased by about 800 percent and federal prisons are operating at nearly 40 percent over capacity, Justice officials said.

Drug school provides an incomparable education.

The problem there is that for prosecutors there is no such thing as justice.  They don't give a flying shit who actually did what and if it was illegal or not.  They only care about winning every case they are given using any means necessary.  And the bigger the sentence the bigger their winning score, so tack on everything that can possibly apply.

Criminal court is supposed to be adversarial, sure, but not like this.

Vegas!

Wife flew up Thursday night, and we did a weekend.

I went to a real spa for the first time, apparently I have no idea how those things really work, and figured showing up just before 3 for a 3pm appt was fine (hint: no).

We saw < Zumanity >, which was entertaining, and had some nice boobs, but wasn't really much on the eroticism.  But we were entertained.

We also went to < Joe's > to eat, which was delicious.

Other than that, just basic gambling/drinking/honeymoon-like time without kids stuff.

Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 11 2015,19:49
Saw a million zumanity adverts when I was there in august.  Trying to hit Vegas again in January as well as San Diego.
