Regular hot dogs, not sausages. There's a difference.I prefer them boiled, the wife prefers them grilled. Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 07 2015,07:58
(GORDON @ Jul. 07 2015,10:46) QUOTE I prefer them boiled, the wife prefers them grilled. Are you broken? Posted by Malcolm on Jul. 07 2015,08:01
Won't touch the fucking godforsaken things.

grilled all the way. Nathan's or Hebrew National dogs are the best... Bar none!

(TheCatt @ Jul. 07 2015,10:58) QUOTE (GORDON @ Jul. 07 2015,10:46) QUOTE I prefer them boiled, the wife prefers them grilled. Are you broken? There's a scene in the movie 2010 where they're talking about the food they miss and Scheider talks about hot dogs at Fenway Park that have been boiling since Spring training.... or something like that. I dont care for grill marks on my dogs. Conversely, as a child at cub scout camp some dick gave me a hard time for not eating a dog that had been half burned on the grill. Imprinted on me. QUOTE hot dogs at Fenway Park This is a good point.. Stadium dogs are some of the best I've ever had. What the hell do they do to them? I can't make a boiled dog taste like that at all! Posted by Leisher on Jul. 07 2015,08:58
Grilled and having some char on it is perfection.
Posted by TPRJones on Jul. 07 2015,08:59
We had one of these, and honestly I think it's how I like 'em best:![]() Nothing quite as tangy as an electrified hot dog. Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 07 2015,09:31
(Leisher @ Jul. 07 2015,11:58) QUOTE Grilled and having some char on it is perfection. This. God, so much better than any other. Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 07 2015,09:31
And how do you like the bun?
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 07 2015,09:34
(TheCatt @ Jul. 07 2015,12:31) QUOTE And how do you like the bun? If boiled, I like them super fresh and soft. Nearly moist, but not moist enough that you would call it moist. If grilled, I put the buns on the grill for about 60 seconds, just long enough to get the grill marks on the top edge of the bun a little. But if I am grilling dogs for the wife then I usually say fuckit and just make myself a steak. She only eats steak well done, and that means she doesn't like steak at all, so she prefers dogs. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 07 2015,09:35
My aunt had one of those hot-dog-electrocution devices. I think we used it once for the novelty and she never used it again because she was a hoarder and it ended up in a box in the dining room or something.

(Leisher @ Jul. 07 2015,15:29) QUOTE QUOTE She only eats steak well done She's doing it wrong. Yeah, i don't bother feeding her the good stuff. I get my choice cuts from the butcher, and I get her the $1.50, 4oz "Kansas City Steaks." As I said, well-done steak is steak for people who don't like steak. Posted by Alhazad on Jul. 07 2015,15:00
Eh, no. People who don't like steak fill up on potatoes instead. She's eating it to be polite to you.
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 07 2015,15:05
(Alhazad @ Jul. 07 2015,18:00) QUOTE She's eating it to be polite to you. Ha. That bitch has never gone out of her way to be polite to me in her life. Posted by Alhazad on Jul. 07 2015,15:10
That statement is cause for concern.

You make marriage sound so fulfilling.
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 07 2015,17:43
I should have added "Gas Station" as a hot dog option.
Posted by Paul on Jul. 07 2015,20:43
I broil mine. I get a similar texture to grilled, but in a more controlled environment.Plus I don't have to mess with the grill. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 07 2015,20:47
Sheeeit, "messing" with the grill means there's less mess in the kitchen.
Posted by Vince on Jul. 08 2015,07:35
I nuke mine in the microwave. If I'm going to go through the trouble of another method of cooking, it's going to be on something more worthwhile than a damned hotdog.
Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 08 2015,07:50
So I cook mine 1 of 3 ways:Grilled - preferred, but only do this if I'm also cooking something else (hamburgers, grilling out, etc) Microwave - lazy/easy. Pan fry - Cut em down the middle, then fry on each side. Most of the benefits of grilling with less effort. Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 08 2015,07:51
The pan fry is nice because you can also drop in some butter, then toast your buns too.
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 08 2015,08:20
You know, I forgot about nuking them. Used to do that all the time. Put the raw dog in a bun, wrap it in a paper towel, and in a minute 20 you have a hot dog with a hot steamed bun.I haven't done that in years. Posted by TPRJones on Jul. 08 2015,11:12
Wait, you microwaved the bun, too? That seems odd. Bread doesn't nuke well. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 08 2015,11:19
(TPRJones @ Jul. 08 2015,14:12) QUOTE Wait, you microwaved the bun, too? That seems odd. Bread doesn't nuke well. Yep. Put the dog in the bun, wrap it all in a paper towel, and the steam from the dog steams the bun. 20 seconds too long and your bread gets hard so you've got to know your machine's sweet spot. Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 08 2015,11:32
Ewwwww
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 08 2015,12:06
I DARE you to try one. But you can't overcook it.

As for the microwave, that tends to leave them shriveled. I pretty much only get Hebrew National, but maybe other brands do better? Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 10 2015,04:23
We typically do ball park, beef hot dogs, full fat. they do pretty well in the microwave.

There was some street vendor somewhere in Europe... maybe France? which served a dog on a big roll with all of your french fries on it, too.The next night we went back to that same guy and got a burg the same way... fries right on it and it all gets smashed down on the europe equivalent of a george foreman. I still put fries on my burgs sometimes. Posted by TPRJones on Aug. 11 2015,19:48
When listing my favorite toppings I completely forgot about coleslaw and green chillies.I really miss getting good green chillies on everything. *sigh* |
