I'd add in stuff like prescription drugs, or OTC meds... but we don't have multiple choice, just single choice.

Given the opportunity (along with a very low probability of being caught, a safe environment, and a lack of responsibilities in the amount of time required to experience and recover from the substance) I will try anything. Once.

Hallucinogens: Properly utilized, I bet they could crack a fuckload of mental illnesses. I bet they could < seriously dent > depression.X: How this isn't used to treat shit like social anxiety disorder blows my fucking mind. Posted by TPRJones on Oct. 29 2014,18:01
In a world where X is legal, I would be one happy little tweaker. As it is I'm too old to score X. Not many folks over 40 at raves. EDIT: Oh, and I'd also be a hell of a lot healthier, because I'd be getting a ton of exercise on the weekends. Something I'm never able to get motivated to do now. Bill Hicks on drugs:QUOTE “They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do just as well — you just realize that it's not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference.” QUOTE “Here is my final point...About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography...What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, or take into my body as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet? And for those who are having a little moral dilemma in your head about how to answer that question, I'll answer it for you. NONE of your fucking business. Take that to the bank, cash it, and go fucking on a vacation out of my life.” QUOTE “If you want to understand a society, take a good look at the drugs it uses. And what can this tell you about American culture? Well, look at the drugs we use. Except for pharmaceutical poison, there are essentially only two drugs that Western civilization tolerates: Caffeine from Monday to Friday to energize you enough to make you a productive member of society, and alcohol from Friday to Monday to keep you too stupid to figure out the prison that you are living in.” I guess you can tack on "and nicotine, just fucking barely." Sometimes I wonder if I would have quit smoking if vaping had been around.
Posted by Vince on Oct. 30 2014,04:56
That was way harder than stopping drinking for me.

(TheCatt @ Oct. 30 2014,06:39) QUOTE Sometimes I wonder if I would have quit smoking if vaping had been around. I switched to vaping a couple of weeks ago. Quit a pack a day habit overnight. The vaping is not only just as satisfying, it's better than the cigs were. Makes it easy to quit. Good stuff. Posted by TheCatt on Oct. 30 2014,07:28
I equate cigarettes and vaping to be the same thing. I guess I meant "I wonder if I would have quite nicotine..."Cuz damn I loved it. Vince - Quitting was so easy I did it 7 times. Posted by Vince on Oct. 30 2014,07:39
Congrats on the long reprieve then Catt. I feel you on the suckage. I still have days where I'd like a foot long cigarette.

Vape > smoke.Maintenance on vape > maintenance on disposable paper. Posted by TPRJones on Oct. 30 2014,08:09
QUOTE I guess I meant "I wonder if I would have quite nicotine..." Cuz damn I loved it. Then why quit? Nicotine doesn't have any adverse side effects on it's own. Vaping takes away all the negatives and only leaves positives. And it's dirt cheap compared to a cig habit. QUOTE While people use tobacco for the effects of nicotine, they suffer adverse health consequences, mainly from damage caused by tar, oxidizing chemicals, carbon monoxide and other constituents of tobacco or tobacco smoke (Smith et al., 2003; Surgeon General's Report 2010).
In other words, it is the delivery system, not the addictive drug, which is responsible for the vast majority of tobacco-related disease. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 30 2014,08:13
QUOTE Nicotine doesn't have any adverse side effects on it's own. That compound by itself has < some evidence > for being carcinogenic. In pretty fuck high doses, granted. QUOTE Indirectly, nicotine increases cholinergic signalling (and adrenergic signalling in the case of colon cancer), thereby impeding apoptosis (programmed cell death), promoting tumor growth, and activating growth factors and cellular mitogenic factors such as 5-LOX, and EGF. Nicotine also promotes cancer growth by stimulating angiogenesis and neovascularization.

I really don't need any addictions. But man it made ADD easier to deal with. I could focus like a champ.

We're talking about just trying things here right?Does anything you were given in a hospital count? Does Nyquil count as hallucinogenics? Posted by TheCatt on Oct. 30 2014,09:38
Nyquil doesn't count, it's an OTC (with robotussin, etc).Yes, just trying. What were you given in a hospital? Posted by Leisher on Oct. 30 2014,09:44
Morphine and Hydro-morphine.
Posted by TheCatt on Oct. 30 2014,10:05
(Leisher @ Oct. 30 2014,12:44) QUOTE Morphine and Hydro-morphine. I mean recreational. Posted by Leisher on Oct. 30 2014,10:34
Some would say those are recreational.

QUOTE Hallucinogens: Properly utilized, I bet they could crack a fuckload of mental illnesses. < From here >. Posted by Leisher on Oct. 30 2014,12:23
I have answered the poll and did not include my time in the hospital or the time I drank a bottle of Nyquil in a sitting.

(TPRJones @ Oct. 29 2014,18:55) QUOTE Given the opportunity (along with a very low probability of being caught, a safe environment, and a lack of responsibilities in the amount of time required to experience and recover from the substance) I will try anything. Once. I used to feel that way. I've never done hard drugs though (coke, heroin, etc). Not sure if I ever would. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 30 2014,12:55
You can get enough OTC meds to mimic the hard shit. Enough caffeine is pretty much speed junior. I won't even go into prescription meds versus street opioids.

I really wanted to find some Hallucinogens in Amsterdam, having never done anything close to that before. But they stopped allowing the sale of mushrooms last year, apparently? On my last day before we left for Germany I saw a place that sold psychedelic truffles(the new legal alternative), but wasn't about to travel into a foreign country, from a foreign country, tripping my balls off for the first time ever. Posted by TheCatt on Oct. 30 2014,14:54
I haven't done hallucinogenics in a long time. The last time I did them was the only time I've ever done them post-college.It was really weird going back to work. Took me like 2 weeks to get back into the swing of things. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 30 2014,15:04
I bet hallucinogen use could eliminate 50-75% of the need for psychologists, counselors, or other people whose job is validating that someone's shitty life is somehow a medically recognized condition.Additionally, Lemmy is a huge speed and acid user. Also about as anti-heroin a guy as you'll find. |
