Forum: General Stuff Topic: Grocery shopping on the first of the month started by: GORDON Posted by GORDON on May 01 2013,09:17
I was trying to play it smart.Had a few things to pick up, but I avoided Walmart, today.... it tends to get packed on the first of the month when the attractive and successful city peeps all get their checks. So I hit Kroger instead. Another, different mistake. Wall to wall old people... old, slow people. I assume they are getting some check on the first, too, or something, for them to be packing into the grocery store like that. Even in the parking lot, rows jammed with unmoving cars, because an old man stopped directly in front of the doors, diagonally, to let out his old woman. Blocked car traffic in 3 directions. I am personally having a painful day, nerves all inflamed and it isn't quite EXCRUCIATING for me to walk today, but it can see that neighborhood from here.... and of course all the handicap spots are taken. Then it is an ordeal getting in the door as they all try to shuffle through the bottleneck of other old people. Then it is an ordeal getting a cart. Then it is an ordeal getting through the store.... old people just stopped anywhere to try to read a price tag, or rifling through the folder to see if they have a coupon for that. In pain I am still moving faster than these people. Then the old lady in front of me at the checkout line kept trying to wave me past her... in the narrow little checkout aisle... because she still had to pay for her groceries ($168 cash pulled out of one of those little bank withdrawal envelopes) and she was confused and thought I was trying to get by her, while I was just waiting my turn with my shit on the conveyor. But then there was the guy with the 2 full sleeves of tattoos... and I thought "cool.... I respect it when they don't half-ass it..." and then I took a closer look and it was all swastikas and SS symbols. Happy May Day! Get me the fuck out of here. Posted by TPRJones on May 01 2013,09:28
I usually shop on Tuesday afternoons at Food Town, the place all the poor people go. Poor people never have money on Tuesdays, so it's nice and empty.

My wife does the grocery shopping.

QUOTE My wife does the grocery shopping. Ditto. Although, I don't mind tagging along. She minds though... She says the trip costs $50 more when I go. QUOTE I usually shop on Tuesday afternoons at Food Town You guys have Food Town in Houston? I thought that was a local chain. QUOTE it tends to get packed on the first of the month when the attractive and successful city peeps all get their checks. Remember when we used to determine where to go to lunch based on the date? Buffets are the WORST around the 1st and 15th of each month when government checks get sent out. Posted by TPRJones on May 01 2013,11:01

There's a 24-hour store a few blocks away. Virtually deserted at 3am. Deserted enough that I usually check for zombies.

In Atlanta, Publix is the shit, if a little crowded during peak hoursCat and I both get hit on constantly by dudes when we go separately, so we usually try to make it a group trip. Posted by GORDON on May 01 2013,13:05
So you can bring home dudes that you both agree on?

I went shopping Tuesday evening specifically to to avoid today's Krogerpocalypse.I normally shop for groceries on Wednesdays because that's when I get my daughter back each week, and I like having a fully stocked kitchen for her. Kroger is hell the first Wednesday of the month. Old people get 10% off that day (or some other similar discount). They crawl down the aisles and they like to park their carts at 35 degree angles which takes up a lot of space. They also like to talk to shoppers coming the other direction down the aisle, so they park their carts together and block all traffic. They don't have their senses so they don't notice that you're behind them. Plus there are a lot of them. Posted by TheCatt on May 01 2013,18:29
