< To get Gary Johnson into the debates. >

Problem is I'd need to believe it might actually happen before I give a fuck.
Posted by Leisher on Sep. 27 2012,15:55
And it never will because too many people want to wait and see if it will instead of trying to make it happen.

Voter turnout is already, what ... 50% in most places (2008 average was 56.8% apparently)? Approximately half the potential voters aren't showing up because they just don't give a fuck. Even being conservative, that's at least 4 of every 10 voters saying what amounts to, "Fuck you, this game is bullshit and I'm not playing." The modern American political system says you've got exactly two choices, no more and no less. And don't you even fucking think about NOT making a choice or expressing your dissatisfaction about said bullshit outside a polling place on election day, that's fucking communism right there, or so some judge in Nevada just ruled. Trying to outbid an incumbent donkey or pachyderm for elected office is about as good a proposition as getting into an ass-kicking contest with a porcupine. The non-voting people aren't quite pissed enough to do anything drastic. When they start torching voting booths, maybe I'll believe they give a fuck. When they stop electing fucktards to ten consecutive terms in the House of Representatives, maybe I'll give a fuck. 4 out of 10 people not voting is NOT them saying "The game is bullshit". Out of the 40% not voting, I'm saying 98% of them don't give a shit. As in, they are too lazy, uneducated, waste of space, etc. Not "the game is bullshit". They don't even know what the game is, let alone thinking it's bullshit."There's a game? Huh? What time is Jersey Shore on?" Posted by Malcolm on Sep. 27 2012,22:03
We'll never know since ballots don't have a, "All the choices suck and I'd rather string my urethra with razor wire than support any one of them," box to check.

I'm just saying that when I hear about people not voting "Making a statement" doesn't enter my mind. "Lazy" does. No way the majority of nonvoters are making a statement about the candidate selection.

OH, and since I recently discovered that you can declare yourself the winner of a discussion, I am doing that now. I have proved myself right and am therefore the winner. :-)

No. I learned this trick from Leisher!I can't wait to use it on my wife. Posted by TPRJones on Sep. 28 2012,07:31
(Cakedaddy @ Sep. 27 2012,19:32) QUOTE Out of the 40% not voting, I'm saying 98% of them don't give a shit. I vehemently disagree with your numbers here. I very much give a shit, unfortunately I'm not willing to vote for the shit that I am given. I 100% refuse to vote for Obama. I 100% refuse to vote for Romney. Last time I went there was no one else on the ballot. So, I stay home. And I think the majority of non-votes are like me. Or maybe not this year. Maybe this year I'll go and protest outside the polling place with anti-everyone signs. Posted by Malcolm on Sep. 28 2012,07:42
(Cakedaddy @ Sep. 28 2012,00:13) QUOTE No. I learned this trick from Leisher! I can't wait to use it on my wife. Good luck on that one. You may want to invest in some blast shielding that holds up to at least "Mythbusters" level explosions. Posted by Malcolm on Sep. 28 2012,07:49

Maybe this year I'll go and protest outside the polling place with anti-everyone signs. The chances of my finding someone worthwhile to vote for (read as "I don't violently disagree with and has a realistic shot at winning") are less than my chances of suffering a fatal accident on my way to the polling place. The chances of my vote affecting a change I'll notice next term are even less. How this country decided that two major political parties was enough, I'll never know. QUOTE No. I learned this trick from Leisher! Are you kidding? That's been around since forever. Don't you remember on the old forums we had a filter in to correct the words "I W-I-N"? (I spelled that with dashes to protect against Gordon's inevitable addition of a new filter...) Oh, and instead of not voting at all because you think Romney and Obama are jackasses, vote for Gary Johnson. Even if you don't believe in his policies and don't want him to win, it's another vote to bring a third party into the limelight ad perhaps break this stupid D or R deadlock we've had going on since forever. I remember that "lol" used to be "I'm sad"

Something tells me I'd be better off taking the time it would've taken me to vote, go to work, then donate that hour of wages to his next campaign. I don't think it's the votes holding third parties back so much as the cash. EDIT: Being animated and memorable helps. The last "independent" that actually made a dent I'd call significant was Perot back two fucking decades ago. Fuck Nader in 2000, he wasn't anywhere near as big. Hell, Perot sounded batshit insane, too. Maybe that's why he got as much attention as he did. Posted by TheCatt on Sep. 28 2012,18:01
Hey Malcolm, Governor has a message for you

< Why I don't give a shit about political petitions >.QUOTE A spokesperson for Change.org tells The Daily Beast that of all the debate petitions submitted, the one that's gotten by far the most attention is the one from three New Jersey high-school students—Emma Axelrod, Sammi Siegel, and Elena Tsemberis—who took on the commission after learning that there hadn’t been a female presidential debate moderator in two decades. Yep, that's the burning issue I want resolved. A chick moderating that bullshit would change everything. |
