Forum: General Stuff Topic: The Census started by: thibodeaux Posted by thibodeaux on Mar. 16 2010,04:55
Last night there was a Census PSA saying that we need the census so we'll know how many hospitals to build in our community (not to mention so that we'll get our "fair share of funding.")Question: is this priceless Census info also used to determine the correct number of gas stations, Taco Bells, strip joints, liquor stores, Wal*Marts, Starbucks, rib shacks, etc.? Posted by unkbill on Mar. 16 2010,15:58
Just got mine today. Can't wait to fill it out. We could use a Taco Bell and a titty bar.

I noticed the government paid a million or two for a census Superbowl ad.Money well spent in a recession. Posted by thibodeaux on Mar. 16 2010,16:23
Got mine today also.

I'm hoping for a taco stand.Although, I have no idea what my wife put for our info. Maybe everyone should lie so we get more than our fair share. Posted by GORDON on Mar. 16 2010,17:49
Do they ask political affiliation?

Just who lives in the house, then the race of said people and who owns it and do you pay rent to them. (Must be for the Amish) And it comes with a disclaimer that none of the information will be made public for 72 years. If that is true or not I don't know. Posted by TPRJones on Mar. 19 2010,22:13
Public, yes. But there's a history of turning the information over to agencies for purposes of "national security" in case of a "national emergency". IMO that wasn't justifiable in WWII considering what they did with it, and it won't be justifiable now, but I do expect it to happen sometime in the next few years in the hunt for possible terrorists.

I'll answer the first question. The second seems to be them asking if I lied on the first question which pisses me off, but I'll answer it. The rest are N/A as far as I'm concerned.

Heard a radio commercial for the census, today.Guy was talking about how his town has grown, and the bus line has added more buses over time. "Without the census letting us know how we've grown, we'd still be running 3 buses.... 3 VERY CROWDED buses, ha ha." Are they serious? Posted by TPRJones on Mar. 29 2010,17:32
Sadly, yes. They are.Without our federal masters to tell us how to do everything we'd all be dead in a week. Posted by Vince on Mar. 29 2010,17:41

I never even saw the form, wife did it before I got home.Apparently if you don't answer all 10, you can expect a visit from a census worker. Posted by GORDON on Mar. 30 2010,06:49
I don't think we've even received ours.

Last time I was interviewed in person. Because we never got a mailer. JS traveled Toledo with his sister Linda because he wouldn't let her interview people in certain parts of town alone.

So what happened in this area... the registered democrats got the census to be counted, and the registered republican did not?I actually don't know what any of y'all are registered as. Posted by TPRJones on Apr. 05 2010,07:38
You have to register there as one or the other? Like when you fill out your voter registration?Weird. Posted by Leisher on Apr. 05 2010,10:03
I received mine and I am not a registered Democrat.

Here the only time it comes up is if you vote in the primary. When you do they stamp your card with a little rubber stamp for the party of the primary you voted in. That's to make sure you don't try to vote in both.

Made me a little nervous to claim on paper to be a republican. As much as the left likes to call the right wing a bunch of nazis, it is historically the socialists who round people up and put them in reeducation/death camps.

If you look at the programs Hitler had going on in Nazi Germany, they were pretty socialist.

Indeed, most of the more atrocious socialist programs of the 20th century were right-wing driven. They're way more forceful about the whole thing than the lefties are, too. Because they're more likely to shoot you if you don't get in line. That's right-wing in the modern "politically 'conservative'" sense, not right-wing in the traditional "small government" sense. That's right-wing in the modern "politically 'conservative'" sense, not right-wing in the traditional "small government" sense. I don't know if I'd go that far. The Soviets killed more people (noncombatants) than Hitler. And China beat them both. That being said, they tend to be two sides of the same coin. The thing they have in common is great big intrusive government. Posted by GORDON on Apr. 08 2010,18:57
Outside of attempts at racial genocide, anyone who wont get with the program (Soviet socialism, Pol Pot socialism, Mao socialism) has to be destroyed ... that is the heart of the millions who have been murdered in camps in the 20th century.I see a lot more of that fanaticism from the left in the last decade than I have seen from the right. Attacks on Sarah Palin have been a magnitude more personal and nasty than any attacks from the right in any actual debate. I mean hey, she is against abortion. What a monster. And I've been indirectly called a racist more in the last 2 years than... well, I've never been called a racist, before that. But any day I've read the news since Obama entered the national political scene, I've been indirectly called a racist. Things are getting nasty. Claiming to be a republican, on paper, has an element of danger to it. Posted by GORDON on Apr. 08 2010,19:05
Further thought: Obama Socialism has progressed to the point that a new political party is spontaneously forming to oppose it... the so-called "Tea Partiers." They are the new target for leftist/socialist hatred. Forgetting the fringe that was present at anti-Bush rallies over the last decade, they highlight the fringe showing up for the Tea Party rallies and claim the fringe represents the whole, painting them as racist, elitist monsters.A villain is being created. What happens with it remains to be seen. Can't have a good genocide story without a villain to fear. Posted by Malcolm on Apr. 08 2010,23:20
If he gets voted out next election, I'll believe you about the new political party thing. Till then, it's corrupt asshole A or corrupt asshole B.
Posted by GORDON on Apr. 09 2010,06:09
These new political parties pop up throughout American history; they are just always absorbed into one of the big 2. Can't say I would be upset to see the Tea Party ideas adopted by the Republicans.Truth be told, the only way I see the Democrats keeping power in November is if the Tea Party cuts the "conservative" vote in half. Even people who fully embrace the Tea Party philosophy might be afraid to "waste their vote." Posted by GORDON on Aug. 25 2010,14:14
This guy says illegals were counted as citizens.< http://www.henrymakow.com/confessions_of_a_census_worker.html > Not sure if that is an issue, though.... isn't the census supposed to count everyone living in the country, period? Posted by TPRJones on Aug. 25 2010,17:38
This is not news. There were several volunteer groups around the country trying to spread the word to illegals that they did not need to fear being counted because they would not be deported by census workers nor reported to anyone for action. The messages usually also included something about being sure to be counted so that your community could get the money it needs to support it's residents, and other socialist crap like that.
