Damn, apparently the next Highlander flick is already in post-production.

Wikipedia says it's the 5th installment of the Highlander series.  They say that Endgame (with Duncan from the TV series) was the 4th movie.  I thought that was a made-for-TV movie, and never bothered watching it.

Highlander 1 was good.
Highlanded 2 was so bad that it ruined the first movie for me.
Highlander 3 was a little better.
Highalnder 2: Director's Edition (or whatever it's called) did pretty good removing the taint from Highlander 2.  I just wish I could purge the Martian plot from my brain.

On a side note, Wikipedia lists these as the Highlander enemies:
The Kurgan | Katana | Kane | Jacob Kell | Xavier St. Cloud | James Horton | Kalas | Kronos | Ahriman | Kortan

Eh, most of those are from the TV series.  & if you talk to the real hard core fans, season six of the series sorta doesn't count, so Ahriman (yes, the Zoroastrian devil) sorta doesn't count.

A Highlander reboot is in the works.

Jason Statham has been cast as Connor MacLeod. Finally! Someone in Hollywood figured out that an action film should probably star a bad ass. Not to mention that he is from that part of the world, so it won't be a huge stretch.

Seriously, wouldn't it be great if that paragraph were true? However here in our fucked up reality, someone thought, "Who do audiences want to see as a gritty, Scottish bad ass?" Ryan Reynolds of course!

I really like Ryan Reynolds as an actor, and he seems to be a really nice guy in real life, but he is not an action star.

Puh-leeze... Tom Cruise has been in action movies for years.

That made me lol.

Did you see his new flick, Jack Reacher? Yeah, that's a 6'6 detective who is physically intimidating and kicks ass being played by a 5'5" cult member.

BEFORE you click the link, read this thread over again. Trust me, it should increase the odds that you laugh.

That have an idea of who they want to replace Connery.

Yeah but if Tom Cruise signs on it will probably come with Tom getting a lot of creative control, and frankly, Tom makes pretty good sci-fi.  So I would see that as a good thing.

Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, War of the Worlds, Minority Report, Vanilla Sky

He does a lot of scifi, most of it is good --> really good, and I don't think he is going to sign on to anything without control enough that someone else could, in his eyes, shit up.

What was the last really bad movie he was in?

I'll grant you that Tom Cruise is pretty decent at picking scripts. However, past success is no indication of future success.

His resume also includes several meh Mission Impossible films, Oblivion, the abysmal War of the Worlds, Eyes Wide Shut, Minority Report (one man's treasure...), Rock of Ages, and probably Top Gun 2.

Ok, I will give you Rock of Ages.  I liked his character in that, but the movie was awful.  It is probably, however, faithful to the hit Broadway play it is based on, so.

He's got the same flippant arrogance Connery does.  But there's no substance to respect underneath.

Adding Tom Cruise to a move increases the odds it won't be a miserable piece of crap.  But it also decreases the odds of making something great.  It's shooting for a safe middle place.
