Many of the network’s most popular shows, including Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Mad Men were boosted by their inclusion on services like Netflix — with viewers getting hooked online, then turning to the network for live-to-air shows once they had watched the back catalog of older seasons.
There's a disconnect here, though. Â If you make everyone wait a year before letting it stream, then people can't actually catch up and join the live season. Â What really happens is people pirate the missing year in between. Â If they really wanted to support this model of attracting viewers they'd cut that wait down enough that you could legitimately watch everything up through season N-1 before the start of season N.
I could not agree more.
I understand waiting because you're trying to sell DVDs, but release them at the 11 month mark and then folks will want to catch the live episodes.
It certainly worked on me with Archer and The League.
