And when talking to friends about them it's important to enunciate "GAME magazines" very carefully...
I'm currently getting PC Gamer, and it's good.
PCXL was good but it died.
"PC Games" mag and "Computer Gaming World...." I remember one of the two really sucked. Which was it?

It depends what you want.
PC Games is really dry, but very, very in depth in terms of the business. They do a LOT of features about the developers themselves and the issues behind the business side of PC Games. It's the one I don't subscribe to, but I do pick it up from time to time.
Computer Gaming World is more like PC Gamer but not as colorful. They are also a lot stricter in their reviews. They refuse to review betas and just recently did away with their "star" rankings for games. They do have the most entertaining column in "Tom vs. Bruce".

Even if I had the internet in the bathroom I'd still want a magazine. Magazines are just more organized and credible than internet sites covering gaming.

Electronic Gaming Monthly barely covers PC gaming at all. It's core focus is consoles and console players.
I like EGM as they cover a ton of console games, but there writing is awful. The magazine just has no style at all and is disorganized at best in its layout.
Everytime I pick one up, I see that their letters page is filled with letters from children, a lot of their articles are written in a language for children, yet other articles and reviews contain cursing and sexual references. They're trying to appeal to kids and young adults (20-somethings) and it comes off really poorly.
By the way Gordo, we were wrong. It's not PC Games, it's Computer Games. That's the magazine that is very in-depth, but very dry.

Have you noticed the PC Gamer, 6 months ago, had an entire box-out to warn you about DRM in games, and describe the type of DRM it was? You notice that for the last few months, they aren't mentioning DRM at all?
They got pressured by advertisers. And that sucks. There was a decent anti-DRM movement going there, for a while.
