Yes, it's been mentioned in one or two generic game threads, but here is its own thread.

I read in PC Gamer that the highly anticipated Bioshock... is Windows Live capable.

Windows Live is Vista-only.

Does this mean Bioshock will be Vista only, ya think?  Because nobody has mentioned that, and it will piss a lot of people off if it doesn't run on XP.

Just reread the article... it definately said "Live for Windows will be supported."

But I guess that means it will have it if running on Vista.

Was also just reading about Vista-only Shadowrun.... which doesn't even have DX10 effects.  The only reason it requires Vista is for Live, which only requires Vista because Microsoft says so.  Dumb.

I read an article with the developers talking about how faster processor was more important then DX10. So Vista people might not have the best looking and smoothest running games.

Gordon ripped GFW:OM (the former CGW) when they changed their name and accepted the certain corporate sponsor, but damn the last article last month, written by EIC Jeff Green blasted MS.

In that article, he blasted the THREE games available under the GFW banner and how each one sucks in it's own way. One is a stupid puzzle game, one is Shadowrun, the other is the many years old Halo 2.

He also went on the blast MS charging people for Live despite bringing nothing new to the table that PC users didn't already get for free.

And to top it off, he pointed out how their attitude towards PC gamers, particularly their "Don't buy it if you don't want it" (In other words "Fuck off"), is shit and needs to change.

It's an excellent opinion piece.

I actually do remember that.  Making Halo 2 a Vista game was a slap in the face for all PC gamers... a 2 year old console port.

Wasn't the third game fucking UNO???

And amazingly... Vista will still win.  Any other company releasing this OS would be laughed into bankruptcy.

But it's Microsoft, and they have a lock on the manufacturers selling tens of thousands of Vista-loaded PC's every single day.

Shitty OS, but we'll all be on it soon.  I'm so happy about that.

I haven't seen any slowdown in the game at all, but I'm running a pretty good rig. (I'm using SLI)

As for the game, so far I'm loving it. This is mainly due to the fantastic atmosphere and story. This is the game Doom III should've been. The environment feels more "alive" and the other inhabitants have purpose and personality.

I do think it's a bit on the difficult side and I think it's intentional due to the abilities you're given. The abilities and the means in which you access them and your other weapons makes this FPS play different from any other. Not that it's a bad thing.

Playing on "normal" and it seems to be equal to any other FPS game's "hard". The targets seem to have perfect aim always hitting me when they fire despite being quite mad. Most of the villains are also lanky (thin and hard to hit), quick (ok, I do think Big Daddy moves a bit too fast when he's fighting), and more erratically. The splicers also seem to always regenerate in areas you've left, which does bug me. To make matters worse, the weapons are 1940s crap. So your machine gun tends to point skyward almost as soon as you pull the trigger. Also, ammo and money (to buy more ammo) are hard to find.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me, and I screwed myself up with all those older FPSs I played in the last few months, but I think Bioshock is tough.

Add onto that, the fact that everything is a choice. What weapons you use, buying items, the way you get Adam, what your load out is, etc. Everything is a choice.

The everything is a choice thing is both cool and a new annoying tactic of game design. For example: I have two slots for my special abilities, but I have three abilities (not named to prevent spoilers), so I have to choose only two, yet all three are really needed in the next area if I want the best chance of getting through alive.

So very tough, but still fun and creepy.

Heh, I still remember loading up on fire arrows, water arrows, & holy water in "Thief."  An unchanging loadout of the same weapons does get boring after a bit.

Oh, you can change it. In fact, there are apparently so many abilities that Gamespot won't even talk about them all in their strategy guide.

The problem is "when" you can change them.

Been playing this more lately as I have more time.

This is a game that you MUST play in a darkened room without distractions. If you can let it immerse you into Rapture, then you're going to get the most enjoyment out of it.

The atmosphere of Rapture is pretty damn nice.

I'd also recommend giving this a nice run through rather than playing it one day, then coming back in a week, etc. Not saying to play it all at once, but let this be your game of choice for a few days to get the most out of the story and atmosphere.

Initially, I thought things were a bit on the tough side. I thought aiming was a bit hard and resources too limited. Now that I'm used to it, I don't feel the same way anymore.

In fact, I'm quite the bad ass walking through levels. Despite that, I encountered a new enemy last night who shook my world up a bit. I liked that a lot. Right when you think, "I'm invincible!", something comes along and puts you in your place.

My only gripe thus far is that I can't figure out how to play recorded messages that I might have not played earlier. It would be a really shitty design decision if they only allow you to play them as soon as you find them because you can find them in hostile areas and the message to play them only stays on screen for 1-2 seconds. On top of that, other non-recorded messages can override them.

Great game so far though. The Little Sister and Big Daddy are going to go down as some of the most memorable characters in gaming history.

It's official: Bioshock is awesome.

I am a bit disappointed with the developers due to the storyline because...well...they need a new writer.

NOT THAT THE STORY IS BAD!!! They just need a new writer. When one of you other old school gamers play through it, you'll know what I mean.

Again, I'll point out that the Big Daddies and Little Sisters are going to be legendary. There's just something about them that is so compelling.

Great game, setting, gameplay, graphics, characters, story, and ending. Actually one of the better endings I've seen. Not because it's long, but because it you were immersed in the game...either way...it should fit your mood at that moment.

Buy it.

Got the game for xmas.  Playing it on XP.  Cool game.  I'm, what appears to me, to be a good way through 'level 2'.

Just curious:

Did you Harvest, Rescue or both?  Don't want to know the affect of any answer.  So no 'why' explination. . . just curious what you picked.

Press 'M' for the map, and down in the lower right corner are some buttons.  Click on those to review tapes you've picked up as well as past radio transmissions from people.

Just started playing again from a while ago.  Still a cool game.  I'm learning new uses for different weapons I've been carrying around but not using.

So I just read that the DRM that comes on Bioshock DVD's, "SecureROM," requires online activation and only allows 2 system installs EVER.

This means that I may probably never buy this game, or at least will wait until it drops under twenty bucks.

Does this mean if you buy it used you can't use it, if it has already been installed twice?

Total horseshit.
