For those that might be interested. The whole game is at war right now.
Long story short, a bit of GM/Dev corruption was discovered where the most powerful PVP corp in the game was getting favors. All other PVP corps declared war on said corp and their allies. Major territorial invasions are happening all over the map and battles on HUGE scales are talking place all over the place all the time. If you quit the game before due to lack of action. . . now you might quit the game because of too much action! Here's a link to our killboard:
http://www.iron-alliance.com/kb/kills.php
That lists kills and deaths we've been scoring/losing. Other alliance/corp boards look the same. Ships that have never been used in combat before (think valorite armor at the brit bank) are being put in the line of fire constantly. The allies are taking the brunt of the losses of said ships though. More allegations of cheating/questionable activities surface daily (some founded, some just crazy) which strenthens the resolve from both sides.
Right now, our aliance (IRON) has allied up with many other northern corps (many of which 3 weeks ago we were actively fighting against in our own territory. Major 'My enemy's enemy is my friend' going on all over the place') and are taking a few systems. It's been a 10 hour battle of attrition to see if we can keep our foothold on one of them. Other allies are taking advantage of this to start campaigns in other areas. The enemy will either lose ground, or be fighting a 5+ (maybe more. I don't have access to such intelligence) front war.
Have to assume that this is the largest combined single goal type thing to ever occur in an MMORPG ever.
This wasn't a recruitment drive. . . but, if anyone wanted to join the fight, you could. Don't assume you need a super uber character to participate. A battle of this size needs just as many caracal/scorp pilots as they do dread pilots. But you'll need to learn fleet battle stuff asap so you can keep up with the action. And learn as it RL pay attention to orders, etc. Not learn as in buy a book and start a skill.

You know, if this was started on purpose then it would be the most brilliant MMO event in history.
Too bad it's actually an offshoot of bumbling management instead. *sigh*

I got two jobs. Otherwise, a promise of frequent violence might entice me.

They managed to find 3 exciting minutes in the game and made a video out of them.

Events are not concurrent. They couldn't find 3 exciting minutes in a row.

Ha. Some of those are really good. Rooks and Kings trapping and then AOE bombing the shit out of a fleet who was on comms whining about how dull the war was is fucking hilarious especially. (the bombing run at the end was good too)
Eve was much better when it was new and nobody knew wtf was going on. Same thing with UO and a lot of other games.
When everyone is a newbie, it opens the game up so much more. When I tried it a few years ago it had become stale, most people were pros and you didn't get crazy encounters with people using capital ships for the first time, or fighting without worrying about "reputations", or the dumb shit they worry about now.
Early UO and FCing in EVE are still my favorite gaming experiences. Me building the maze-house-from-doom in Rust is probably third. Fuck the haters for not figuring out my floor plan.

I still say we should have built giant walls around some Rust town and just spent all day sniping everyone who went in to farm.

Rust devblog has some really, really good stuff in it today.
I'll type more this weekend when i get home, but structural gravity, and a smaller base map which will then be randomized by server are the highlights.

Good video. Eve is one of those games I really should love, but just can't get into it.
