This might break a record for time between sequels.

I had Bard's Tale II on the C64.  One of the dungeons was broken, it always errored when I put in disk 2 (5.25" floppy disks).  I took the game back to Sears (vid game stores didn't exist back then) and told them it was a bad disk and give me another.  They didn't have another and just refunded me.  The next week I saw the same box back on the shelf stapled shut.

DEATH AND DREK.

I remember some of the harder puzzles being places that were completely dark, where certain squares randomly teleported you to other places in the maze, occasionally laden with traps.

Yeah, I think they were spinners... I tried for so long to map that damned dungeon.  Not sure if I ever accomplished it.  No compass, no light, just banging into walls.  Ridonkulous.

We finished it.  We finished ALL OF THEM.  We'd take turns sleeping and playing.

Usually staying up quite late at night, fueled by soda and candy.

That one, and Legacy of the Ancients... I would get up 2 hours before school just to play a while.

Ah, the SSI Gold Box series.  Yeah, sunk time into that, too.  At least that had rudimentary mapping functionality built-in.  I can't believe the disk swapping and loading times for combat you had to put up with.  And fucking everything resulted in combat eventually.

There was always one incredibly evil battle at a minimum in each:

Pool: fucking Kobold caves and the bullshit graveyard "you can't rest" marathon undead cleansing.

Curse: I remember reloading again and again charging into over a dozen dragons.  Way early in the game and it was virtually impossible unless you imported twinked and maxed characters (because you could manually jack stats to 18) from Pool.

Secret of the Silver Blades: my memory gets fuzzy on this one.  Not nearly as much playing time, but I remember beating it without too much trouble.

Pools of Darkness: holy fucking fuck.  During the last 10% of the game, every battle is epic.  Lord of the Rings epic.  Except there's only six of you.  Not uncommon for each of those fights to take over an hour to get through.

Kickstarter starts tomorrow.

Donate tomorrow and receive your choice of The Witcher, The Witcher 2, or Wasteland 2.

Well hell, looks like I'll be donating to Bard's Tale IV tomorrow!

Kickstarter is live.

I'm in for $20, but I'm kind of eyeing other levels wondering if I should go higher.

For $55 you get Wasteland 2 (or one of the Witcher games), Bard's Tale 4, and Torment: Tides of Numenera.
