In financial trouble.

They need to make a push into the portable gaming market, specifically phones and tablets. Just port a bunch of their old big name games and introduce them to a while new audience.

Hell, I'd give the Final Fantasy series another shot on tablets (starting at number 3 though) and I've never played any of the Dragon Quest series.
