For the team play stuff. What characters do we need to learn and include in our mix? Should we start naming who we play, and will play so we can build some teams? Should everyone learn a character from every 'slot'? For us to be competitive, we'll have to expand our champ selection and learn when/how to use them.
I've got Noc, Ashe and Brand. I'm considering Viegar, but maybe not. Was thinking of switching to him because I just couldn't get Brand's stun to be reliable. But, I've gotten a lot better after tonight's practicing. I own Fiddlesticks, but haven't gotten the hang of him yet. Then I own the free ones as well. Kyle, Tristana, Caitlyn, etc.
So, how do we build a competitive team?

I own: Alistar Amumu Ashe Caitlyn Cho'Gath Katarina Kayle Master Yi Miss Fortune Poppy Tristana Tryndamere Xin Zhao
Right now I think my best character is obviously Tryndamere followed closely by Cho'Gath. I want to get Graves.
Of the list above the other characters I'm going to begin playing more are Katarina, Miss Fortune, and Xin Zhao.
What that all means is that right now, I can hit hard with Tryndamere, tank and annoy with Cho'Gath or Amumu, play ranged with Ashe or Miss Fortune, and I don't know what Xin Zhao or Katarina does yet.
And obviously, I'm not opposed to learning the other champs I own, they're just not as much fun for me right now.

Playing against Nasus last night, he really good at holding a lane against Kayle and Brand. We couldn't push against him at all. He didn't push us either, until their jungler would come up and gank. He gets stronger for every enemy he kills. So, having a lane to himself really made him strong. Not only did he level fast, he gained the strength fast.
That being said, we need to figure out who solo's best, who jungles best, etc. Veigar is another character that benefits from a solo lane. For every enemy he kills with his Q, he gets an ability point. There's no cap. So, last killing minions for twenty minutes gains him a ton of gold and ability power. Nasus collects attack damage if memory serves.
Did some research on Swain because I started giving Gordon building advice. Although some people do build a tanky Swain, I think the Swain we saw that made us want a Swain on our team was an AP Swain. I understand your desire to go tanky to survive fights, however, I submit that if you increase your AP and do more damage with your unlt, you in turn heal more from your ult helping you survive. And that's what I remember about the swain that we fought. It wasn't that he had a shit ton of hit points and we couldn't kill him, it was that it seemed like he didn't take damage. He'd turn his ult on, and even with three of us beating on him, he just wouldn't die. Next thing we knew, we had no health, he had a bunch, and we were pissed. I believe that came from an AP build as apposed to a tanky build. That's where the AP suggestion was coming from last night.
I want to learn to jungle with Nocturne better because I think he makes an excellent jungler. His ult lets him quickly enter a fight from cover. He doesn't have to hope the enemy gets close to his weeds, etc. Plus, his ult puts the entire enemy team on a defensive posture for a few seconds. So, his ability to gank makes him a good jungling candidate.
We need to work on the tank part of our team. We don't have a good tank. Also, when it comes to a team fight, we have to figure out who to send first. In most team fights where we get dominated, the enemy sends their tanks, we bite, and their nukers and carriers take us out. We have to have our tank(s) meet theirs, and then. .. . I don't know. We've never done that. And if we don't have tanks, we just have to keep falling back until their squishier players are close enough to snare and kill, or, we harass their tanks enough that they have to pull back. But, we don't charge and dump on their tanks. Gets us dead every time.
I propose that everyone learn a tank character, jungler, carry and nuke. That way, we can always switch up, count on each other to fill a role, and when we get into ranked play, we aren't crippled by our one character we know well being blocked from us. I'm considering Nasus as my Tank, and recommend Veigar as someone's nuke. I've already started playing with him too. But, that obviously doesn't stop someone else from playing him.

From what I understand, all team play is Draft Pick. Â The game type where both teams pick from the same pool of characters (if we pick Trynd, they can not, etc). Â So, each of us having multiple characters that we can play is mandatory.
Right now, I play:
Nocturne Ashe Brand
Listed in the order of my abilities. Â (I can play Brand, I'm better as Ashe, best at Noc).
I'm going to start learning Veigar next.
I still want to learn Fiddlesticks, Annie, Singed and Alistar. Â I am least interested in learning to be a tank. Â But when I do, Singed (if he even counts as one) and Alistar are my top picks.
Team has been formed. Â TheKnightsOfVindication (no spaces due to character limits) with the team tag of [TKV]. Â Need to be level 30 to be on the team. Â Not my rules. . . Riot's. Â Also, looks like we can have 8 people on a team, manage multiple teams and be on multiple teams.
Lastly, right now, our team is being 'evaluated for ranking and roster changes are unlimited'. You are ranked after 5 games. After that, it appears there will be limits on roster changes.

So as far as the TKV ranked play, are we going to limit it to Cake, Leisher, and I, since... I believe.... we play the most, together, as a team?
Or do we need to forge a 5-man team? I haven't looked into the ranked play rules at all.

Any ranked team is all lvl 30 players who EACH know how to play many different champions.
Why?
When a ranked game begins, it's worked differently than what we see now. As was said earlier or elsewhere you don't just grab Trynd, Noc, Ryze, Garen, etc.
First there's a ban phase where each team gets to ban certain champions. So if the opponents ban Trynd...I'd be fucked if I only knew him.
Then each team selects champions. However, it's not all at once. It's Team A, then Team B, then Team A, and so on. Once a champion is taken, nobody else can play that champion.
So it doesn't matter if we do a 3v3 or 5v5, we have some work to do before we could seriously climb the ranking ladder.

I'm proficient in Swain, Ryze, and Morgana. I know what all Singed's buttons do, so I can play him in a pinch. We could use a little practice playing as a team with Morgana because that shield she can drop would be a great tactic to use in a coordinated turret rush... the fast AD guy gets shielded and rushes in and we are tanking turrets/bombing the peeps hiding under them earlier than we would otherwise.
That being said, you rarely see those 3 magic user characters in play, so all three probably wouldn't be banned/picked, so I am guessing 9 times out of 10 I would be able to choose a character I can play. Maybe I could learn 1 more, just to make it 9.9 times out of 10.

If you go another, pick a tank like Nasus or maybe this new armored bear (if he's a tank).
We are badly missing a tank.

Many years ago I used to tank Ryze, and get him up to like 4k health. Lately I go all AP and games do not typically last until I am level 18.

A true tank will be able to absorb a ton of damage, have crowd control (cc) like area affect stuns and stuff and heal themselves.
When looking at champions, you can tell it to show 'tanks'. Alistar, Amumu, Taric, Rammus, etc. Other characters make good tanks, like Nasus, Singed, Udyr and more.

That is generally how I build. I'd never bought the Shockfire thing before with Singed, I was just experimenting because it has mana regen as well as a bunch of other useful abilities. I buy a cheap mana regen object at level 2 or 3 because I've learned it keeps me from having to recall for mana all the time. Shockfire just expands on that concept later in the game. If I played exactly the same as everyone else, then I could get away with the standard item loadout.
Then the first time I buy it, someone asks about it.

I was going to ask you about it though...could that be the item that the "other" Swain used? Remember the guy whose mana never went down and was essentially just walking around draining people non-stop? Since you didn't have to turn off your poison (which I think was awesome), is it possible he used that item to do something similar?
(I say all that with no idea how Swain works.)

Yes, I first started using it as Swain, as it is one of the "recommended items" in his loadout. Last night I was browsing the shit for sale looking at mana regen items, and Shockfire was there.... and I thought, "Hey, I know how to use that." SO I bought it. Of course we are kinda rushed during shopping in the middle of the game, so I didn't put a TON of thought into it.

It never seemed like you had mana issues after early game. In which case, concentrate on AP and survivability items. Too much mana regen is obviously bad. You might also consider mana potions instead of items for extra mana during long battles/pushes.
