I know peeps didn't like Patton's war mongering the US allies, even though he was right. IIRC he wanted to keep going past Berlin and take out Russia.

Didn't he die after the war, in friendly territory?

If you're interesting in going down this rabbit hole, there are some good comment threads here and here. Long story short:
The US Government, since at least 1933, was either a tool of the Soviets, or else thought the Soviets were a tool of US. This carried over into WWII, where US basically kowtowed to Stalin's demands, letting him have half of post-war Europe. Also, Eisenhower was a commie; did you know his autobiography was ghost-written by a real card-carrying commie? Also, SecNavy Forrestal was assassinated by being tossed out a hospital window by commie agents.
I am not being sarcastic here, either. Is this stuff true? Don't know. But it would explain a lot. You don't even have to believe in conspiracies to notice that, hey, if WWII was about liberating Europe from totalitarianism...how does that square with letting the Soviets take over?

I don't know if Eisenhower was a communist, but the Venona project shows that high level advisors in his administration (along with all the others since the '30s) were associated with the Communist party. Ultimately, that's what did in McCarthy. He embarrassed both parties, so in the end no one had his back.
