From here. QUOTE A woman in Canada was alarmed by Carter's questionable comment and notified authorities. Carter's home was then searched (although no weapons were found) and his computer was taken. The teen spent his 19th birthday in jail; this is the first time he's been incarcerated.
A jury in Texas' Comal County charged the teenager with making a terroristic threat in April, which is considered a third-degree felony. That means Carter could spend ten years in jail for the Facebook comment. The judge also gave him an unusually high bond, $500,000, which his family can't afford to pay. Makes sense. Â Completely not out of proportion for this "offense." Â Crack dealers have gotten off with smaller bond amounts. Â Even single sanity check in the legal system, if any exist, must have failed. Â All of this was in response to someone hating on his LoL mad skillzies.
Again, the American legal system at every level has been reduced to a joke of a lame two-legged horse that ought to be shot in the head and put out of its misery. Â The fact that serious resources were spent on this should be a crime itself.

The justice system has turned into a big game of Russian roulette. Punishments are almost completely arbitrary and random, and every citizen is eligible to play just by being alive.

He's still in jail. If he wasn't a criminal before they put him in, he'll be one by the time he gets out. Try getting a legit job in your 20s when you:
1) have no work experience or college degree 2) are an ex-con 3) are an ex-con because of a terrorism conviction
I'm sure he wouldn't turn to crime in such situations, though.

If mankind ever develops telepathy, I guess everyone will have to arrest everyone else.

PA Report shreds legal system's response to children nowadays. Â I think this sums it up, though: QUOTE It's hard to count all the times I would have been arrested during my days in primary and high school if I had gotten caught for half the shit I pulled. Article is peppered with examples of legal insanity in this country. Â Good to know we haven't evolved much past the ancient system of "Eh, just punish them however." QUOTE If he wasn't antisocial and angry before being arrested, he will be now. But we couldn't take the risk that he was serious, and that something may have happened if he wasn't imprisoned. Some criminals are born. Â Some are made. Â If all the judges, legislators, cops, and prosecutors stood on one side of a line drawn in the sand, and outlaws on the other, I'd side with the latter at this point.

Probably the worst part is that were teaching all of America's children that police are not there to serve and protect, they are there to keep citizens in their place and take them away if they screw up in even the smallest little thing. They are never to be trusted and will never do anything positive to help you.
Although, the fact that that is rapidly becoming a more accurate description of life in America, perhaps that's the best part in terms of their receiving a practical education. Lord knows they aren't learning anything else in the classrooms, so at least they'll have this lesson.

QUOTE They are never to be trusted and will never do anything positive to help you. That is my current view of the cops.
QUOTE I ascribe to Mark Twain's theory that the last person who should be President is the one who wants it the most. The one who should be picked is the one who should be dragged kicking and screaming into the White House. - Bill Hicks
I think cop jobs ought to work the same way. Â I don't think I'd trust anyone to work the beat that actually wanted it. Â I think I could apply that logic to the judges and legislators as well.

Was at trivia last night. This was brought up in one of the questions. My team consisted of me and the two roommates. After I remarked on the sheer stupidity of trying to scare an otherwise ok 18-year old using jail and that most burglars and some rapists have been charged with less than half a mil for bail, they still seem to think this is a positive step forward in the world of law enforcement.
I have since moved out.
