"Voluntarily" my ass. Â No more than you'd "willingly" run from a pack of rabid wolves.
EDIT: QUOTE "We have market research that says consumers really like this — they like choice, they like the ability to make choices," said Susan Neely, president of the American Beverage Association. Yeah, that's why there's like a total of three separate soft drink companies that own everything.

The small posted messages are stupid, but I'm fine with government forcing the posting of calorie counts. There are not many things governments can be good at, but forcing more openness and clear information for consumers can and should be one of them.

They're already on the goddamned bottles. Are we going to tattoo them on each individual molecule, too?

And how would one read them off the bottle before making the purchase, exactly? Or is there a return slot on those things I didn't know about for if you change your mind.

QUOTE And how would one read them off the bottle before making the purchase, exactly? Â Or is there a return slot on those things I didn't know about for if you change your mind. Mayhaps educating themselves in the nutritional benefits of carbonated sugar water without relying on the word of the merchants selling the product would be better. That seems to be the main reason consumers end up wasting their cash on stupid shit. This isn't buying something with four billion interconnected working parts, either; it's a fucking soda. The silent statement here is that, "Consumers are too fucking stupid and lazy to manage things themselves, let's make a token effort and look like we give a fuck while simultaneously maybe scoring points for preempting government regulation."

Giving someone relevant information before they make a decision is always good, IMO. Â Sure, most people probably either don't care or already know how many calories there are in a soda, but as a general rule the more information available to people the better. What I don't want to see is regulations limiting or banning sodas, because that is where government is saying people are too stupid to make their own decisions.
Regardless of the probable lack of sincere motivations, I still approve.
