An article posted on Facebook.

One of my friends, who happens to be an artist and is as left wing as it gets posted that.

One of his friends commented: "I live in Europe and can confirm that most of that is true."

The stupidity level is through the roof.

#1 and #2 are blindingly obvious to anyone who isn't an idiot.

#3 is just a declaration of the aforementioned idiocy and is actually untrue about many - perhaps even a narrow majority of - Americans.

#4 has not really been my experience at all, at least not anywhere I've lived.

#5 is very shortsighted.  Let's see this guy spend a few years living in a small village in Etheopia during an extended drought and then come back to tell us how life in America is just too hard.

#6 is is just as shortsighted.  Of course there are places in the world where people are better off, and plenty of them.  Lots of them.  But it remains true that there are about a billion starving people in the world, which is a heck of a lot, and many of them are indeed living in large slum areas.

#7 is simply wrong.  Some of us are scared little girls pissing ourselves about terrorists.  But not very many at all.  The vast majority are pissed off about the TSA and government bullshit and won't be taking it much longer.

#8 is actually somewhat true.  But I can't think of a single human culture where it isn't somewhat true, with just differences in how high status is defined from culture to culture.

#9 is partly true, but mostly false.  Again, after he's spent some time in a North Korean or Hatian hospital, then let's see what he has to say about medical care here.

#10 is absolutely true, and quite wonderful.  I love being comfortable.  And doesn't everyone?  I mean, it's not like sleeping on broken glass has ever been a particularly popular choice.

Really, this list says far more about the short-sighted views, limited experience, and lack of critical reasoning skills of the author than it does about America.

I made the statement that the whole article is generalities.

If you remove "Americans", you could replace it with Europeans, black people, Hispanics, Californians, New Yorkers, current and former students at Harvard, etc.

The article would still work. Granted some "facts" here and there would need to be tweaked, but the point remains that the article damns human nature, and then assigns it to Americans, like we're the only ones guilty of it.

Article is stupid.  I especially enjoyed the "everywhere outside America is not a shithole" point, because he said that one part of bangkock (or wherever it was) had a new movie theater and ther was wifi.

In 1999 I stayed in a 5-star hotel in Malaysia.  One Saturday I had the day off work so I went for a walk, I wanted to go see the Indian Ocean that appeared to be about 3 miles away.  I could see it from my 19th floor room.

Within 2 blocks I was off the beaten path, and peeps stared at the white person.

Within a half mile I was in a shanty town, and things would get less noisy as i would walk past.  Within a mile I was being actively scoped by 2 male teens on a motorbike.  I took some strange turns to lose them.

Once I was about 4 miles from the hotel I found the Indian Ocean, and there was no beach and it was all shallow because it appeared that all of the toilets in the city, once the pipes were a few blocks a way from the 5-star hotels where the Americans stayed, all ran into open, roadside trenches, running downhill, until they flowed into the ocean.  It was shallow because it was packed with shit, and smelled like it.

I found a busy intersection and caught a cab back.

The presence of luxury places and items doesn't mean a place isn't a shithole.

Christ, Leisher, your facebook thread ended up on my wall.

It is shit like this that makes me contemplate closing my facebook account.  Your friend David the Toledo Artist is a fucking idiot, and I feel dumber for having looked at his profile page.
