Anyway, I've heard from a few places that these guys were very, very liberal democrats. After two years in Iranian prisons do you think they still are?

No. Â They were "arrested" for crossing the border into Iran (note that they were "arrested" in Iraq - not Iran - by guards who were basically an unofficial invasion force at that point), then "convicted" in a ridiculous sham of a trial and held hostage until someone paid just under a million dollars to have them released.
Basically, Iran as a nation is now kidnapping American tourists from Iraq in order to make some money on the ransom.
