Remember, kids:  it's the RETHUGLICAN who use fear, hatred, and threats of violence against The Other.

The funny thing is, I was just thinking yesterday about where a real revolution could even get you, given my own dissatisfaction with government.

I can imagine better, but I mean... what's the target? Overthrow the government?  Remove Obama?  What would you actually do? Occupy the white house and senate?  How many people would it take to not just get immediately killed?  How much of the armed forces would you need supporting you?

Object is mainly to replace the Legislature, and wipe the board clean on every federal law passed since 1850.  Start over.

Return to looking at the Constitution as what the federal government CAN do instead of things it can't.  It greatly reduces the power of the federal government when interpreted as it was originally intended.

Return to the state governments being the main governing body of the people, and the buffer between the people and the federal government (confederacy).

Somehow remove the ability to have riders on bills.  If you want funding for a gay and lesbian museum in Nerwark, NJ, then you have to get a bill passed for it... you can't tack it on the bill that increases funding for the veteran's administration.

You would need a transition year to reduce disruption to the country, and possibly grandfather in some programs, but I think it would be very worthwhile in the long run.

It's really got nothing to do with "removing obama," or whatever.  What needs to be done is a tabula rasa, and I'm sorry to say it, 90% of the so-called "progress" made by progressives in the last 100 years needs to be wiped clean.  They got it right now and then, but CHANGE has gotten us to where we are today.

As for these questions, the right person could do it all without a shot fired.  Talk, travel, don't get assassinated, and a newly elected legislature could do everything I just said within the existing system.

Option 2 would need to be a mass subversion of military command and civilian law enforcement, which is a lot harder.  Orders from those being shown the door need to never get to the troops.

We may need a way to deal with supreme court justices being flat-out wrong about whether or not their job is to actually make sure laws are constitutional.  Lots think their job isn't to do that, but to legislate from the bench.  They might be a big fan of broad interpretation of interstate commerce laws.  This is an issue to be addressed, but ultimately we still need that judicial branch of government.

The majority of Americans don't want limited government.  So, as Mencken said, we're getting what we deserve, good and hard.

I was talking about this with a coworker yesterday.  Make the congressional rules require a clear purpose statement be the first paragraph of every bill.  Limit it to a maximum of thirty words.  Any portion of the bill not directly related to the purpose statement can be summarily removed by agreement of majority and minority whips or by a mere 10% vote of the congressional body without effecting the rest of the document.  Any bill that somehow passes with such a rider should be overturned by the courts in toto according the the new rules.

If you want to make deals, don't make a rider make a separate bill.
