I donated a car and was sent the 1098c form and it sold for $650. Trying to find the forms I need but honestly I don't have any idea what is going on. Each form seems to be telling me to use the other one(perhaps on purpose).

If anyone did this do you remember the forms you used? Was it even worth it? If I am only going to save $20 because of my donation then I probably won't bother.

It is your civic duty to take any and every deduction for which you qualify, thus reducing the taxes you pay and the damage that will be done by the federal government with that money.

More on topic: I have no idea how that one works.  Sorry.

The more googling I do the more I think I can even deduct my donation. I don't have enough things to itemize so I need to do the standard deduction which means I don't even take my truck donation into it.

Of course I could be completely wrong but that is how I am currently understanding this shit.

That's true as far as I know, if you are going to deduct charitable donations you have to do Schedule A.  It's not worth it unless you have some significant reason to do so, like having big medical deductions or some mortgages or other similar things.

Should have sold it to me for half the value of the tax deduction, then I would have deducted it.

My original plan was to donate it to some sort of animal charity but the human society didn't do that and my old lady thought that I was just trying to donate it. So when she call the animal places and they said no but thank you she then called just any charity to told them to come get it.

Know then what I know now if the animal rescue couldn't use it I would have just found someone with a cliff and asked if they would let me push it off it. That would seem to be a better use of the vehicle and more fun.

I donated my vehicle before they changed the law and also at that time I gave it to a church who in turn donated it to a family so there was no resale of the vehicle.

That being said you enter the fmv of the vehicle (selling price) on form 8283 and from there to sch A.

As you stated you will not be using Sch A unless you have more deductions than the standard deduction so you are running in circles.

I agree with the cliff thing.  I think Gordo did that once with an Escort in W Virginia.  Or was that the one you abandoned in the Kroger Parking Lot? lol

Most junk yards will give you at least a pittance for a used car so if you could have sold it for $100.00 and given that to the animal rescue peeps you would have been much better off.

PS:  Animal rescue is one of my favorite causes.  Have a little rescue boxer.  He is my German Shepard Dog's pet.

I believe your van had a bad end to. Didn't the family father end up in it playing with himself outside a playground in Cleveland?
