You are a 17 year old male.  Buying your first car.  You can pick from a:

1992 BMW 525i - Silver, Moon roof, A/C and other stuff.

and:

1999 Ford Explorer Sport - 4x4, A/C, roof rack, power options, and other stuff.

Both cost the same.  Both are in about the same shape (as far as rust, dings, etc for 10-15 year old cars).

More info:  The A/C on the BMW is sick (as in, not well).  Not sure how much longer it will last.  Power seats are starting to go.  Gears are poping, etc.  All other power options work well, including the sweet moon roof.

Pretty much everything on the Ford is good.  The owner is in a selling mood and tired of dealing with it.  Asking blue book, taking signifcantly less, thus bringing it into his price range.

So, bang for buck, the Ford wins being that it's over all a healthier car.  But, the other option is a 'sweet' (in a 17 year old's eyes) BMW.

Anyway, which do you pick?

What was the number one "Clunker" in the cash for clunkers program again?

Oh yeah.

BMWs from '92 are not "sweet."

Whichever one would get the most when traded in for a smart car.

In another 8 years that BMW qualifies for antique plates, so there's that going for it.

Where did you hear that?

According to this article the Ford Explorer was the #1 traded in vehicle. It was also #2, #3, #4, #7 and #8.

I was pointing out the Ford explorer was the #1 Clunker... and my choice was BMW.

Sorry for the confusion.

Gotcha.

As for which car, I'd keep looking. Have him start looking on the web too. That's how I found my car. I'll never buy a new car again after learning what I did during my last search and purchase. (Unless I'm rich, then I won't give a shit.)

I must be too "internet message boardy" for my own good.

You've never seen anyone quote something and say "This" when they really agree with it?

I think I need to stay out of this thread, I'm just confusing people.

Isn't money always an issue for a 17 year old?!  But yes, it is.  And yes, it would.  But even though it was a '92, it was pretty sweet.  Beats the hell out of what I was driving at 17!

Define "Looking on the web" and what was your discovery?

And at 17, you bought a new car?

No, and why do you think I cringe at the thought of buying a used car with somebody else's problems?  It isn't just something i saw on tv one day.

BMW Super sweet but gonna cost way way too much for a 17 year old's budget.  I would also check into insurance costs.

OOOOhhhhhhH!!!!!  You're derailing my thread!  I thought you were answering as a 17 year old like the first post stated.  :-)

Actually, I thought you were going to say "Yes.  My Probe."
