is a lie.

Not sure what changed this year, but I've been getting it for several years now, and rarely get sick, let alone the flu.

However, this is my second time this year getting the flu.

They guessed wrong this year.  The dominant flu strain was a variant of the one they made the immunization for, so it wasn't nearly as effective as it has been in recent years.  By the time they realized they were wrong, it was too late to make up a new batch.

The odds of the flu shot making a difference in your sick time are about as good as the odds of you walking away from a roulette wheel a winner.

It's still 23% effective this year, which is pretty good overall odds for preventative medicine.  Not as good as most years flu shots, though.

Yeah, I remember hearing that it wasn't a complete waste, but not as good as usual.

23%  Fuck that.  What's normal?  Does it break 50%?

Normal is about 50%, yes.  I think 58% may be the exact number but I'm not sure.

Most preventative medicine clocks in around 5% to 10% effective, IIRC.  Compared to those stats, vaccines in general are super effective.

Preventative medicine is a properly fueled immune system and basic sanitation IQ, unless you have marvelous intelligence about exactly what disease is there to ruin your week.

Update: Kids are walking germ dispensers. Every time we have a sleep over, I get sick. I need a decontamination chamber like in Aliens so when the kids come over I can make them go through that first.

Maybe your immune system is slacking off.

Well considering where he got it from...
