Apparently an ex-cop is going around shooting cops and relatives of cops. So the cops fight back by...shooting random people.

WTF, man.

Officers from the Los Angeles and Torrance police departments engaged in two separate shootings Thursday morning in Torrance, Calif., reports KTLA. They had come across two different vehicles that were similar to the description of Dorner's getaway car, a gray 2005 Nissan Titan pickup.

Well shit, how were they supposed to know they made more than one of those?  I'm also sure they were just trying to control the situation, by shooting at people guilty of the heinous crime of being similar to the dude the cops were looking for.  Maybe L.A. will change its name to Keystone to fit with its police.

So... apparently the rampage cop hasn't killed the correct cops still on the payroll, yet.

Some places like LA don't really have police anymore, it's just that some of the gangs are wearing uniforms and some aren't.

Cop killer killed.  A fire somehow started during a shootout.  Either Michael bay rewrote physics or "police tossing smoke grenades" really means "police chucking incendiary devices."

Don't know.  But only the article thib linked mentioned anything about the cops going all trigger happy on anyone that so much as drove a similar make/model of car.  I find it hard to have any sympathy whatsoever for those involved in this scenario.

We are definitely not being told the whole story.

Guy is a vet and cop. Loses his job. Goes nuts and declares war on cops. Starts by killing his lawyer's kid? Then kills cops who have nothing to do with his firing?

None of it makes sense.

I think even the MSN is confused. Notice they used an adult picture of him smiling? If they thought he was innocent, they would've published a picture of him as a kid, maybe opening Christmas presents. If they thought he was guilty, he wouldn't be smiling...or he'd be white.

Assuming it's even really him.

By the way, police-tossed grenades often DO start fires. At least, I know I've read of several instances where flash-bangs used during "dynamic entries" set the house on fire.

And as for tear gas canisters causing fires...well, we've all heard of Waco, but maybe you've also heard of the SLA.

So, they're smoke grenades, but only by virtue of the fact they've got a high chance of setting shit on fire and thereby cause the smoke?  I'm also fairly certain Waco involved the FBI driving up armoured vehicles to the compound and blasting it with flamethrowers.

Smoke and CS gas grenades got pretty damned hot.  It's a chemical reaction that releases heat and the gas/particulate.  COULD start a fire in a cabin.... but... conditions would have to be just right.

Yeah, I don't think that's right.  I think I remember their motorized battering rams cut the natural gas lines, then they got ignited.

At any rate, I don't think there were flame throwers.

You've got me defending the ATF.  Grrr.

1.  The youtube footage at that link is too fuzzy to make out anything.

2.  One argument FOR flame throwers would be... Clinton was in office, therefore the media was covering for the democrat.

I remember congressional hearings with Janet Reno, though.  Seems like it would have come out then.

Seems like a chemical analysis of the site could have confirmed or denied that.  That window of time has passed, though.

You mean the gentle slap on the wrist they got for one of the most incompetently run operations in the history of law enforcement?  Fuck the legal system in this country and everyone involved in it from the prez to Congress to the Attorney General on down.

From wikipedia:
QUOTE
Attorney General Reno had specifically directed that no pyrotechnic devices be used in the assault.  Between 1993 and 1999, FBI spokesmen denied (even under oath) the use of any sort of pyrotechnic devices during the assault; however, pyrotechnic Flite-Rite CS gas grenades had been found in the rubble immediately following the fire. In 1999, FBI spokesmen were forced to admit that they had used the grenades, however they claimed that these devices, which dispense CS gas through an internal burning process, had been used during an early morning attempt to penetrate a covered, water-filled construction pit 40 yards away, and were not fired into the building itself. According to FBI claims, the fires started approximately three hours after the grenades had been fired.  When the FBI's documents were turned over to Congress for an investigation in 1994, the page listing the use of the pyrotechnic devices was missing. The failure for six years to disclose the use of pyrotechnics despite her specific directive led Reno to demand an investigation. A senior FBI official told Newsweek that as many as 100 FBI agents had known about the use of pyrotechnics, but no one spoke up until 1999. On May 12, less than a month after the incident, Texas state authorities bulldozed the site, rendering further gathering of forensic evidence impossible.

1) gov't says they won't use pyro devices
2) gov't uses pyro devices
3) gov't denies use
4) gov't destroys means to get further evidence to expose their fucking lies

Fuck them all.  Had they been up front about having them beforehand, I'd be more inclined to believe them about the usage.
