Let's assume it's some large institution that could generally afford losing $1 Million (large corporation, government, etc).

Straight-up theft? No. Ā But I would be willing to do things that some people would consider theft.

Like jacking up the price of oil on speculation, for example.

Straight up theft.  Hacking into a network, siphoning funds, or whatever else people do.

No.  I feel guilt and it would always bother me.

It depends on the specifics, of course, but as long as I could do it without causing direct harm to any particular individual and could find a way to convince myself the company would barely notice, then I'd go with <= 10% chance.

What are the consequences of getting caught?  Federal pound me in the ass prison?  I really don't know the consequences.  That would weigh heavily on the percentage I would accept.

I'd imagine it's a felony, so medium security prison, and restitution of the $1million or such.

We'll say... what, 5 years of medium security prison?

I voted no. Stealing isn't my thing. Even if I didn't get caught, someone is paying the price for that money being gone. That's on me if I took it.

Now if I found money in a duffel bag from say a drug deal gone bad...I'm keeping that money.

I was wondering where that line was for people too.

I voted that I'd take it, cuz if it was government money, I probably would.  Granted, I wouldn't risk any punishment, so let's face it - I'm not going to steal anything.

Seems to me this just happened in Puttsburg. But was 2.3 million and the guy had to blow the back of his partners head off. Didn't sound to me that the guy was smart enough to get away with it to long. Hope he enjoys it while he has it. He is going to be in prison an awful long time.
