They just announced a 24 hr sports channel starting Jan 2nd.

Is ESPN finally getting a competitor?

ESPN is to sports news what MTV is to music videos.

Ok, that's unfair. ESPN does put on Sportscenter nightly along with a few sports talk shows in the late afternoon. Aside from that, it's all live or taped sports.

ESPN moved the 24 hour news to ESPNNews.

I have to think NBC's new endeavor will be something to watch, particularly when it's time to renew TV contracts with the four big sports...and the MLS. If they're serious about competing with ESPN, they'll have to pull off a major coup that will draw in a lot of viewers.

...and the MLS.

They have already made a deal with the MLS. They also get some USMNT games and a small number will be broadcast on NBC itself.
