Anyone else having their credit card # get fraudulent activity a lot lately?
A few years ago, one of my credit cards got some fraudulent charges.
Last August I found someone tried to make 2 small charges ($8 and $9) over a two month period. Got that canceled.
This weekend someone tried to charge two airline tickets in Brazil on another of my credit cards.
It's like every time I memorize a new card # I have to friggin cancel it.

Fiancee and I both got ours used in Walmarts in various places around the country within the same week.
We figure some place we split a dinner at sold our cards or something.
This was a month ago.

On an unrelated note... I do sign up for a fair number of credits cards.
A few years ago, my wife and I each signed up for AmEx cards that earned us 1 $500 Home Depot gift card each. Any time I find an offer that pays $150 or more, and has manageable spending limits, I sign up.
Bank of America - Spend $500 in 90 days, get $150
I just received a $750 Home Depot gift card from another offer a week ago, that I sold on Plastic Jungle for a $655 Amazon GC (which is basically cash in my house). My wife did another offer earlier this year that got us a $500 cash card.
I've made at least $1000 a year the past four years doing this.

I've had my Kroger Mastercard for about 2.5 years and had to replace it twice due to fraudulent charges.
The first time the card wouldn't work at Kroger (I had to use my check card, so no bonus points) and when I called they said that $1 was charged to iTunes, which was a suspicious charge so they froze the card. Â The operator said that criminals like to make $1 charges on iTunes to make sure that a card works before making bigger charges on it.
I told him that I have never purchased anything from iTunes in my life, so he canceled the charge and then asked if I wanted a new card. Well, duh!
Maybe 6 months later they called me to see if I had charged hundreds of dollars to some out-of-state dental website. I had not, so they canceled the charge and shipped me a new card.
I've never had a fraudulent charge appear on my bill (that I've notice).
One time I had an Amazon order denied, and I when I called my credit card company they said it was suspicious (it was computer equipment shipped to my home address!) so they denied it. Â I told them it was okay, the approved the transaction, so I was able to re-check out on Amazon.

Spend $500, get $250 back from Chase Freedom.
Just applied for that one, and got accepted.
We bought an HVAC system last fall, I used two credit cards, each of which gave me $500 back, and the HVAC system total = the amount we had to spend on the cards, so it was basically $1k off the system.
If you are concerned about your credit score dropping from new accounts: A) it isn't much, and B) You can use Credit Karma to monitor your credit report for free.

My debit card was just replaced because allot of them including mine were used at out of state Walmarts. Which if you know me is ironic.

In the past month, I've done the following 2 cards: 1) Amex: Spend $1k, get $300 statement credit. 2) IHG: spend $1k, get 80k hotel points.
The nice thing about them both is that I sent money to my wife via the credit cards via Amazon Payments (no fees), so I didn't even spend anything.
Unfortunately, Amazon Payments has closed down for personal payments cuz of stuff like that.

Last year I got 75k points via AmEx Gold sign-up bonus
This year, I'm getting 75k AmEx Gold again, and 50k Marriott points.
That'll put me around $7,500 worth of stuff for free.
